Humans and horses have shared a very long and special history. It’s been suggested that man has relied on horses for transportation since 4000-3500 B.C.! Only recently, within this century, have we stopped relying on them as our main mode of transportation.

People and Horses: A Bond That Should be Maintained and Cherished

It’s a shame many people don’t get to experience the wonders of riding a horse anymore. There is something very special and wonderful about riding a horse that you can’t appreciate until you actually try it. If you’ve never been on a horse before but want to try; it’s strongly suggested you take some horseback riding lessons first.

What Kind of Riding Do You Want to Learn?

Before you begin taking horseback riding lessons it’s important to know what style of riding you would like to do. There is Western and English style horseback riding. Western style is just as it sounds. It was developed by cowboys in the old west to easily allow them to herd and rope cattle. English style is based upon European military riding styles.
Once you know what type of lessons you would like to take, you have to decide where to take your horseback riding lessons from. If you know others who have taken horseback riding lessons, it’s a good idea to ask them for a recommendation. If you don’t know anyone who rides horses, then you’re going to have to do some digging on your own.

Finding Places that Offer Riding Lessons

One way you can find local horseback riding lessons is to look in your phone book. If you have a few choices you may want to do some further digging. You can type their name into a search engine along with your city. Maybe you’ll find people who have reviewed them somewhere on the internet. If not, then you’ll just have to call and talk to them. You can get some basic information such as how long they’ve been riding, how long they’ve been giving lessons, how much the lessons cost, etc…

Keep Your Cool. Just Have Fun

Before you go to take your first horseback riding lesson there is one important thing to keep in mind. If you’ve never rode a horse before, you may feel a little nervous. If at all possible try and keep your nerves under control. Horses have a good sense about their environment around them. This includes how people feel. That’s where the term “horse sense” comes from. If you’re nervous, you can spook them a little bit.
If you’re new to riding horses your instructor will more than likely put you on a very gentle, tame, horse. They don’t want you to have a bad experience when you try horseback riding. They will make sure you have all the proper safety equipment. They should especially provide a helmet to you for riding. It’s always a good idea, especially if you’re new riding horses, to wear a helmet.

Reconnecting With Nature

Taking horseback riding lessons is a great way to get back to nature. Once you get comfortable with being around and on a horse, you’ll most likely find it very relaxing. You’ll be able to feel that special bond for yourself with a horse that has been experienced by your ancestors for thousands of years.

Betting on horse racing does not mean that you have to be present right there on the racetrack. Today, you can place your bet online and in the comfort of your home.

This is the power of technology. Nowadays, everything can be found online. All people need to have is a computer and an online connection and they will be able to see the race action live on their small screen.

Even if it is not as good as the live one or as big as the ones you will see on television, it is very convenient for those who are on the move and do not have the right facilities for it. Just think. You will never again miss the action. You will have a minute-by-minute account on the race that is going on. Besides that, you will know first-hand if the horse you are betting on will win or not.

How does betting horse racing online works?

There are some sites that just need you to register into them and put in your deposit. Once the result is out, your losses or winnings will be debited or credited into your account.

Not all websites are like this though. There are those that require its would-be members to pay an initial fee. Some even require monthly charges depending on the frequency of your visit and stay.

Even if the betting horse racing is done online, the rules and regulations are still the same. The types of bets and race conditions are also the same as the ones you will see and get live.

Since the process is done through computers, you can expect a short delay on the tally of your bets based on the overall betting system. For those who cannot wait for the update, they are given a choice of the statistics to be sent directly to their cell phones.

But with the advantages that people get from betting horse racing online comes its disadvantages. They may be minors but it is still worth the glance.

1. Unsatisfying experience.

Some people find that nothing can compare to the feeling that they get when they are on the racetrack and is part of the action. You cannot really get that same feeling when you are just there watching it on screen.

Most of those who bet on this sport are after the excitement of seeing the race from start to finish. They still want to shout and cheer with the rest of the crowd gathered there on the stadium.

2. Miniscule screen.

Being confined in the small screen of your computer, you will not get a view of what is happening in the whole event. You will just rely on where and what the camera is focusing on. This is a total turn off for those who want to see every corner and every move around the racetrack.

Those who are intent on having a better view of the horse race choose to have their own satellite TV in their home to get a bigger and better view of the live happening in the racetrack.

3. Computer system problems.

Slow computers and outdated hardware installed in your computers are one of the factors that will hinder your betting horse racing online experience. If you do not have the most advanced features, do not expect your viewing to be as great as it should be.

However, if you can do away with these minor problems and your only desire is to cut the suspense and see the result as it happens, then horse race betting online is always there at your convenience.

What’s the perfect gift for a horse lover? That would have to be a horse. But if you do not have the finances, or if they already has one, then you buy the next best thing. With the many options available, there is one gift that would best suit any horse lover. Here are some equestrian gifts that you can find for your loved one.

For a young horse lover, you can get him a toy pony. You can also find a bag, tote or purse with horse design, a boot box where pens, markers or brushes can be placed, a shirt or heart-shaped jewelry box, also with horse design. There are also other toys like cards and puzzles. If they like to watch movies, give him a DVD of a nice horse movie.

Another gift idea is equestrian jewelry. You can find horseshoe rings, horse pendants or bracelets with horse trinkets in gold, silver or platinum. Or you can give some horse art, like paintings and posters. If you can paint, you can make a mural on a wall of their home.

For someone who likes to read, you can give subscriptions to equine magazines. There are also horse lover notebooks, journals and address books, office stationery, paper weight and book ends that you can find. If your loved one is seriously considering a career in horse riding, you can give DVDs and books on horsemanship. Tickets to a horse show or rodeo would also make great gifts.

There are also house items that you can get for the adult horse lover. You can find many blankets and throws with horse prints, pillowcases and pillows with horse designs, equestrian trellis designs in placemats, tablecloths and napkins, floor mats and rugs, horse racing table tops, home accents and décor, clocks, etched glassware, horse loving mugs, statues. Other house décor like nightlights, lamps and candle holders would also look beautiful in a horse lover’s home.

For someone special, you can give a horse mailbox. Some manufacturers have different breeds, colors and poses available. So you can find a black palomino in a running pose, or a chestnut thoroughbred standing. These products even have some natural-looking mane and tail hair.

Another practical gift is a basket containing stuff for the horse like horse treats or toys that the horse can play with. Or you can give a bucket full of products for horse grooming like shampoo, hoof pick, body brush, shedder, saddle soap and others. This is ideal for a horse trainer or riding instructor. Ask help from a riding professional to know the best products to buy.

Of course, you can buy horse apparel and riding accessories like jackets, boots, hats and saddles.

If, despite all these gift ideas, you still can’t decide on what to give, why not give gift cards or certificates to a specialty store. That way, they are sure to get something they really want.

There are many sources of equestrian gifts. You can find them in stores, museum gift shops and the internet. Also, if you really know the person, then you will know what gift they will love. So, the next time you would want to give a horse lover friend or family member a gift, you know what to buy and where to find it.

Before you go to the great expense of buying a horse, you need to evaluate how good a rider you are, and just how much do you really know about horses and horse care. Make no mistake, you need to really be honest with yourself as this is a huge commitment. Ask yourself what size and age of horse would work best for you…

Before you go to the great expense of buying a horse, you need to evaluate how good a rider you are, and just how much do you really know about horses and horse care. Make no mistake, you need to really be honest with yourself as this is a huge commitment. Ask yourself what size and age of horse would work best for you as well.

Okay you have just fallen in love with a flashy looking equine and now what? What do you want to achieve and is THIS the horse for you? Are you going to be hunting, driving, barrel racing, trail riding or jumping? Are you going to ride at all? You can get horses just to drive.

What about this horse’s temperament? Quiet, feisty, pushy, amenable, or grumpy? If you aren’t comfortable with horses, don’t get a pushy horse, as you will find it ruling you and not the other way around. If you are planning to just trail ride, don’t buy an eventing horse.

If you don’t have horse experience then do not buy a young horse and try to train it. Two newbies who don’t know much do not make a good mixture. Wait until you have more experience or pay the price for your mistakes – such as injuries to you and your horse because you did not know what you were doing.

Take an experienced friend with you to check out horses. Better they help you assess the horse so you don’t wind up over horsed (buying a horse that is way too much for you to handle). Your experienced friend can also ride the horse for you to assess if it would work for you. If the current owner is riding the horse, and they insist you don’t need to try the horse – run, don’t walk as far away as you can, and keep looking.
